Discover Our America – New Subscription Box Launch
Discover Our America
Discover Our America is a new subscription box program that just launched. Discover our America celebrates a new U.S state each month and features not only food items from that state, but a photo-filled overview of the state and history designed to spark conversation and bring families together. Each box contains 5-7 products to help you experience the state chosen for the month. Subscriptions are $39.95 a month with free shipping, and they offer free cancellation at any time.
Discover our America is based out of Michigan, so you guessed it, the first launch box is Michigan! I have never actually been to Michigan, so I was excited to learn a little more and share with my kids some of the interesting facts.
Hello, Michigan!
When I first opened the box, my first impression was YUM!!! The box is also bigger and really sturdy compared to some other boxes.
Included this month were
- Caramel Corn from Detroit Popcorn Company
- Rock & Rye Pop, Faygo
- Wild Cherry Tea from Cherry Republic
- Salt Water Taffy from Martha’s Original Mackinac Island Fudge

- Michigan Overview Booklet
Detroit Bold- Woodward Ave.
Detroit Bold Coffee Co is created at the Becharas Brothers Coffee Company, a Detroit-based company established in 1914. I’m a huge coffee drinker, so I was excited to try this out. It had a rich, bold, smoky flavor and didn’t leave a bitter aftertaste.
ZZANG! What the Fudge? Bar, Zimmerman’s Candy
The ZZANG! What the Fudge? Bar contains milk chocolate fudge, muscovado caramel, and malted milk cream fondant. I split this in half to share with my daughter, and we both loved it! It is super rich and has a great fudge taste which I love, but with a smooth chocolate outer shell. If you like fudge, you will definitely like this!
Cherry Republic Wild Cherry Tea
I have heard that Michigan is known for its cherry production and even holds a National Cherry Festival in Traverse City. This tea is made by Cherry Republic and is one of the largest cherry exclusive retailers. They also offer cherry jam, cider, cherry syrup and pretty much anything cherry-related and more! The Wild Cherry Tea has a great flavor with a subtle taste of cherry, and the aroma is amazing!
Detroit Popcorn Company, Caramel Corn
This is one of the first items I opened in the box. I love caramel corn and couldn’t wait to try this out. Detroit Popcorn Company has been producing popcorn since 1923 and the caramel corn special recipe has been used since it’s opening. It has a buttery rich caramel flavor that my whole family loved!
Rock & Rye Pop, Faygo
Faygo pop beverages were invented by two Russian immigrant bakers back in 1907 in Detroit. They are still based in Detroit and offer several different flavors. In Michigan, pop = soda. I’m originally from the south (now in the Midwest) and we call everything a Coke, even if it’s not a Coke, which doesn’t make much sense, but that’s a whole other story. Haha Faygo Rock & Rye has a unique taste but reminds me a little of Dr. Pepper or maybe Mr. Pibb. We really like it!
Martha’s Original Mackinac Island Fudge, Salt Water Taffy
This popular Salt Water Taffy has been around since the 1800’s. This taffy has a great flavor, is light and airy and not hard to chew like other salt water taffy I’ve tried. This company also offers fudge, as the name says, in many yummy looking flavors.
Sanders, Sea Salt Caramel
Sanders Fine Chocolates was established in 1875, and this Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel includes their original caramel recipe that has been around since 1920. The dark chocolate is rich and has the perfect creamy caramel inside topped with coarse sea salt. I kept this one all to myself. These could easily become addicting!
Michigan Overview Booklet
I think one of the things that truely makes this box unique is the state booklet that’s included. It includes beautiful photos, geography information, history, and places to see as well as things to do in the state. This is a great way to introduce different states to your children, and I even learned a few fun facts too! I have four children, and 3 of them are under the age of 5, which makes traveling very far a little difficult.
I hope to be able to travel with them more once they get older, but I think this is a great way to experience the different states without ever having to leave your home. It’s a fun and unique way to experience each U.S. state and enjoy some of the goodies that they produce! Overall, we loved our experience, and learned some great things about Michigan! Michigan has many amazing companies that have withstood the test of time, with some being around since the 1800’s!
