Birchbox July 2016
Just in the very slim chance, you haven’t heard of Birchbox before then it’s a monthly subscription of beauty items for $10 a month. They also have a very generous points system that allows you to earn points for reviewing the products you receive on their website, referring friends and more. You can then use those points to purchase items from the website.
This month’s theme featured items that get you up and at em.
Clinique City Block™ Purifying Charcoal Cleansing Gel
The Clinique City Block Cleanser contains charcoal to help rid of dirt, oil and makeup. This left my skin feeling clean and wasn’t drying, but honestly, I didn’t feel it was any better than any of the other charcoal type cleansers I’ve used. The full-size version is decently priced at $20 and I know there are lots of Clinique lovers who would probably really like this.
Klorane Shampoo & Conditioner with Chamomile – For Blonde Hair
I was excited to see this in my box this month. It is supposed to get rid of unwanted brassy tones and residue in blonde hair. My hair always seems to get a little brassy after awhile, especially once my color starts to fade.
I found the shampoo to be very drying to my hair, which it’s supposed to get rid of residue so I wasn’t expecting it to be super moisturizing…it was just way too dry for my hair.
The conditioner felt rich and creamy and contains chamomile so I thought it would be great at moisturizing, but unfortunately it still left my hair feeling dry. I ended up putting lots of argan oil from another brand while my hair was wet to be able to get a comb through it.
I have only used this once so far, and may try the shampoo again followed by a deep conditioner.
dr. brandt® PoreDermabrasion
The dr brandt PoreDermabrasion contains salicylic acid to unclog pores, caviar lime to brighten and lentil seed to tighten pores. This really felt like it did a good job at deep cleaning my skin. The exfoliating granules are really fine and surprisingly it wasn’t too harsh on my sensitive skin, although I was careful not to scrub too hard. My skin definitely felt cleaner and looked brighter after using this.
Marcelle Xtension Plus Curl Mascara
I love a good black mascara! I have super short and thin natural lashes so I never leave the house without at least mascara and a little bit of lipstick or lipgloss.
The Marcelle mascara features a curved wand, which I love to help lengthen and curl lashes. I actually use to bend some of my other mascara wands to get the same effect. It worked great and lengthening and curling my lashes without clumping!
Overall, there were a few products this month that I didn’t love, but I still feel it was a pretty great month. I can’t wait to see what I receive next month.
