Kick Your Clutter to the Curb
When you have kids, you tend to accumulate a lot of stuff, which can leave your home looking more like a bombsite than the clean oasis of calm you had hoped for, but it doesn’t have to be this way. With a little effort, you can kick your clutter to the curb and create a more organized home for the whole family. Here’s how:
The 5-Minute Clear-out
If you’re a busy mom and you don’t have much time to spare, do not despair because you too can achieve a minimal clutter home. If you don’t have a day or two to dedicate to decluttering, simply divide the work into short 5-minute bursts and do some light decluttering whenever you find yourself home with 5 minutes to spare. Sure, it’ll take you a little longer to achieve your dream home, but you will get there in the end!
An Item a Day
Make a commitment to donate or throw away at least one of the things you don’t need every day. Get every member of your family to do this too. Pretty soon, you’ll notice there’s a lot more space in your home.
Bribe the Kids
If you have kids, it can be tough to declutter. Children tend to be resistant to change, and they really don’t want to let go of any of their toys, even if they never play with them anymore. So, if you want to avoid arguments, tantrums and mummy-meltdowns, give the kids an incentive to declutter.
You could give them a few pennies every time they donate an item, or you could tell them that for every ten items they get rid of they can have a special treat. Do whatever makes for you to make your goal of decluttering as easy as possible.
Do the Rubbish Bag Challenge
Each get a trash bag and see how quickly you can fill it with stuff you no longer need. Set aside a small prize for the winner and your family will be filling those bags like their life depends on it, leaving you with a more minimal home!
Try the 12-12-12-12 Challenge
If filling a whole rubbish bag with your trash feels too overwhelming, why not try the 12-12-12 Challenge instead? This challenge asks you to find 12 items to donate, 12 to sell, 12 throw away and 12 to put away in the correct place. This challenge takes very little time, but it can have a huge impact on the look of your home.
Same-Day Rubbish Removal
There’s little point in decluttering your home if you’re going to be left with overflowing rubbish bins and masses of junk piled up in the garden, so, do yourself a favor and call a
same-day rubbish removal service.
Decluttering your home with the above tips isn’t too tough, and when you think about all the extra space you will have as a result, not to mention how much better your home will look, it is well worth taking the time to implement as many of these ideas as possible.
