The Monsters Aren’t Under The Bed, They’re Everywhere

It’s interesting to compare the fears of parents and their children. Children are scared of things that go bump in the night, hide under the bed and creep through the house. Children fear things that aren’t there and are not real. Parents are terrified of things that go bump in the night, hide on and in walls and could be life threatening. The things that parents fear are very real indeed and they could pose a threat to your children and your family. When you become a parent, you understand that fact is far more frightening than fiction. Here are some of the biggest fears and threats to your kids in the home.

Environmental Dangers

There are plenty of issues with the home environment that can be dangerous for children. Some are found in older homes, like asbestos. If you don’t know what asbestos is it’s a fibre that was used for insulation purposes up until the late eighties. At this point, people realized that it might present a health risk. It has been linked to several serious illnesses including the development of cancer. Although it is dangerous, there are still plenty of homes across the country that contain asbestos in the walls and the ceiling. The reason for this is simple. It can cost thousands to remove and you might not even know you have it. It doesn’t always show up on a home survey. The good news is that if it’s left undisturbed asbestos is harmless. But you’re still rolling the dice if you have this in your home.

There are other environmental issues present in every home like mold. Mold grows due to a lack of insulation in a room where cold air meets warm air. It’s quite common in bathrooms where there is no fan to get rid of some of the moisture. Mold releases spores into the atmosphere that while not deadly, can cause breathing issues in young children. It’’s easy to fix because you can get rid of mold with a humidifier. This will stop condensation forming in your home that eventually leads to damp.

Break-ins And Burglaries

This might be the greatest fear for most parents. It’s a scary thought that one day an intruder could end your home while your kids are tucked up in bed. That’s why it’s worth thinking about extra house security. You might want to have a look at security camera system prices online. They are certainly not as expensive as you might think and will provide an extra level of protection for your home. They will also act as a deterrent. People are unlikely to risk breaking into a home where they might be recorded in the act because it’s just not worth it.

Of course, some people must improve basic levels of home safety. Did you know that ten percent of people leave their home front door unlocked when they are in? Don’t forget, if the door is unlocked or a window is open, it’s just trespassing rather than a break in.

These are just a few of the dangers present in your home. Are you prepared to dispel these monsters for good?
