Mint Infused Vinegar for Cleaning
Mint Infused Vinegar for Cleaning
Vinegar works great for cleaning. I use it to clean in the kitchen on countertops, to clean the windows and mirrors, and even to mop the floors!Vinegar is acidic so it helps to counteract all kinds of icky stuff!
The only thing I hate about vinegar is the smell, but since I’ve started infusing the vinegar, it’s been a game changer!
Infusing vinegar is pretty easy and straightforward. The Orange Infused Cleaner I shared on the blog is still one of my favorites and I use it daily.
However, I was ready for a new scent, and I have tons of fresh mint growing outside right now, so I decided to infuse mint with vinegar. If you don’t have fresh mint, you can also use other herbs or even buy some at the store. The process is exactly the same.
To Make:
Rinse and pat dry fresh mint leaves. Add your mint leaves into a glass jar and pour white vinegar on top leaving about one-inch headspace at the top. The exact amount of mint leaves and vinegar doesn’t have to be exact, and will depend on the size jar you use. I used about a half a cup of fresh mint and 1 1/2 cups of vinegar. The more mint leaves you use, the stronger the scent of the mint will be once finished.
Next, you just place the lid on it, give it a good shake, and let it sit for two weeks. It also helps to shake it every few days or when you remember.
Once the two weeks are up, strain the mint using a coffee filter or cheesecloth to get rid of any sediment. Then add the infused vinegar with a 1:1 mixture to a spray bottle and essential oils if using. Replace the lid, and shake gently.
To Use:
Mix 1:1 ratio vinegar concentrate with water. I use an empty spray bottle and fill it halfway up with water and add the concentrate to fill the bottle up the rest of the way. Then I just shake it up, and use on everything from the countertops to the sink and even the tile in the bathroom!
Do No Use On: Granite, marble, hardwood floors or painted surface. If you have any doubt, make sure to do a test spot first.
