Finding the right hair care products can be a daunting task. There are literally hundreds on the market from drugstore brands to professional products. I’ve always found that finding the right shampoo and conditioner to be the hardest since it’s the product I use the most.

I’ve used both drugstore and professional brands and as a cosmetologist can be pretty picky about the products I use.

Many shampoo and conditioners on the market, especially drugstore brands, contain chemicals that can strip your hair over time or waxes that can coat your hair and cause breakage. The good news is that many brands now are going sulfate free and switching out harsher chemicals.

Even as a cosmetologist it’s always been difficult to find the right shampoo and conditioner. My hair can be difficult and have a mind of its own. My hair is normal thickness, color treated, very wavy in the back, straight in the front and dry. My hair was also long up until a few weeks ago when I got a haircut and it is now shoulder length.

So, how do you find the right shampoo and conditioner if you’re like me?

After I answered all the questions I received my products in about a week. With the shampoo also comes a brochure explaining your hair type, the goal you want to achieve and the ingredients that were selected for you. Not only do they include the ingredients, but the brochure also explains what each ingredient does. 

For my hair type they chose ingredients that deep condition, are anti frizz, hydration, and help replenish hair. I also selected the fragrance Shoreline which is a clean crisp scent.

After using the products a few times I could definitely tell a difference.

Normally after I shampoo and condition my hair I also have to use several other products, such as a detangler or leave in conditioner, and argan oil for shine. With the Formulate products, I didn’t need to use extra products. They left my hair moisturized, shiny, and I loved the crisp woodsy scent of the shoreline fragrance. So many shampoos and conditioners have a fruity or floral fragrance so the shoreline was a nice added bonus!
