How to Make Your Kids Drink More Water
Ensuring your children drink enough can be a difficult task, especially if your child is fussy. As your child grows, they need to stay hydrated and get goodness from what they drink and the best way to do this is through encouraging them to drink more water. For some parents, this is easy and for others, getting your child to drink water is like attempting to get blood from a stone. If you are struggling, here are a few ways to make drinking water more appealing for your child.
Turn It into a Game
Children love a bit of competition and, therefore, using this to your advantage could be an easy way to get them to drink more water. You could see who can reach their eight glasses of water a day first or if you have more than one child, you could make each week a competition and whoever drinks the most water (without being excessive, of course) gets to choose the family day out. This is a great way to encourage them to keep hydrated and healthy and, before you know it, they will be drinking water without thinking twice about it. There are also many apps that you can download which remind you to drink and allow you to tally each glass of water you have.
Get Them Their Own Water Bottle
Having your own water bottle can make drinking water a little more exciting, especially for younger children. Allowing your child to choose their own water bottle means they are more likely to use it. Whether this is a personalized one with their name on or their favorite superhero, a cool water bottle can go a long way in getting your child to drink more water.
Infuse Water
Making water taste a little better may be all it takes to get your children to drink more. There are many ways you can do this and you don’t need fruit juices full of sugar to do so. You can use many different fruits such as lemon, oranges, and even berries. We need to be really careful with how many sugary drinks we give our children, as this can be extremely bad for their teeth and could even mean they lose their baby teeth early due to decay.
Be a Role Model
Your children are never going to drink water if you aren’t. This means being a role model at all times and only drinking water too, except for special occasions. Fruit juice or soda should be a treat rather than something you have all the time. Staying hydrated is very important for both you and your family, especially in the summer months. Bevi understands the importance of hydration for you and your family and has a great article on staying hydrated throughout the seasons. Failing to do so could lead to headaches, fatigue, and more serious issues such as UTI’s (urinary tract infections).
Drinking enough water is extremely important and instilling this habit into your children from a young age will aid them in staying healthy and hydrated.
