I received the Cricut Explore Air 2 about a month ago and have had so much fun with it! So far I made a card, a Halloween mug, and now these cute farmhouse-inspired drink coasters.
I’ve also been getting the hang of the Cricut Easy Press (read my review here) and hope to have more posts on the blog using it soon!
Today I thought I would show you how to make these super cute (and also easy) drink coasters using the Cricut Explore Air 2.
( if you are thinking about getting a Cricut machine or want to learn more, be sure to read my post here.)
I made these coasters using sayings that remind you to relax. As someone who has anxiety, sometimes I need to remind myself to just sit and be calm, and that it’s okay to be doing absolutely nothing.
I normally have my coffee in the morning before the kids wake up, and catch up on the news. These coasters are the perfect affirmation to get my day started and hopefully yours too!
These coasters would also make a cute gift for a friend, family member or loved one!
You can find the design for these coasters on Design Space Here.
You will need:
- Cricut Explore Air 2 Machine
- White Ceramic Tiles (4) 4.25″x4.25″ (found here) can also be found at local hardware stores.
- Black Colored Premium Vinyl™ – Permanent
- 4” x 4” Cork backing sheets (Found here)
- Basic Tool Set that includes scraper and weeder
- Transfer Tape
- Hot Glue Gun or Super Glue
- Font The Skinny (free for personal use)
- Mod Podge Clear Coat Acrylic
First I downloaded the font “the skinny” from dafont
Next, I went to design space and uploaded the font and words I wanted to use (you can find the project here)
Then I set the Cricut Explore Machine to vinyl, loaded the black vinyl on the cutting mat and hit the blinking Cricut light on the machine to get started cutting.
Once I weeded some of the lettering, I used the transfer tape on top of each word, one at a time, and scraped the top with the scraper tool.
After that, I took the transfer tape with the wording and placed it on top of the blank tile and used the scraper to burnish the word on the tile, and then gently pulled the transfer tape back to make sure it had adhered.
You will then repeat this step with each coaster you are making.
Once you have all the wording on your tile, you can turn them over and place the cork backing. The kind I purchased here already had an adhesive backing, but I also used the hot glue gun to give it an even more secure hold.
Lastly, I used Mod Podge Clear Coat Acrylic to seal the design. I used the spray but you could also use the Mod Podge waterbased sealer you brush on.
Just make sure you are in a well-ventilated area and allow the coasters to dry in between coats. I only did two light coats of the spray and found that was enough.
I just love the look of these coasters! They go great with any decor and were easy and fun to make with the Cricut Explore Air 2!
They also make a cute gift for the holidays. Just tie a cute ribbon around them and add a gift box or bag. I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t love to get these as a gift!
