I’m slowly making the transition to a more natural home. It all started one day when I was cleaning and my 2-year-old was watching. That day I happened to be using a spray bottle with bleach ( I still use bleach, just not for every day cleaning) she wanted to help me clean and started to reach for the bleach bottle and which point I yelled “No, don’t touch that! My little one looked at me mortified, not understanding why I didn’t want her to help.
I keep all our household cleaners out of reach from the kids, but that got me to thinking about how many products I use on our counters, floors, furniture and everything else that the kids touch daily. Most of them have toxic or even harmful ingredients, especially for children.
Since then, I have made my own hand soap, window cleaner, and several more that I hope to share on the blog soon. Most of the cleaning products I have made contain basic ingredients such as baking soda, olive oil, and Castille soap.
Now I don’t have to worry when the kids want to help me clean, which I definitely want to encourage, and the products are safer and also better for the environment!
I do still use a few commercial cleaning products, but I’m glad we have been able to eliminate most of them. I’ve found most of the cleaning products I’ve made actually work better, save money, and are really easy to make.
This dish soap is easy to make and gentle on your hands!
*Keep in mind, this doesn’t suds as much as a commercial dish soap, but I’ve found it actually works better! I also like that you can customize the scent by either using scented Castille soap or either an unscented version of Castille soap with essential oils. It’s also moisturizing on your hands!
Supplies:
Castille Soap (your favorite scent or unscented)
A 24 oz bottle ( I used an empty commercial dish soap bottle) It’s recommended to use a glass bottle when using essential oils or HDPE plastic.
water
measuring cup and spoon
small funnel
