With the Spring and now Summer months come lots of outdoor activities. From hiking, swimming, going to the lake, backyard bbq’s and fun celebrations. However, with all the fun outdoor celebrations, eventually comes dreaded mosquito and bug bites.
For some reason, mosquito’s just love me! I can spend 15 minutes outside and come in just covered in bites! My youngest daughter doesn’t get bit as much, but her poor little arm whelps up from even the tiniest little bite.
*This Bug Bite Salve will also work on chigger bites, ant bites and other small insects to help calm and soothe the skin.

What’s In This Bug Bite Salve?
Coconut oil ( I use this)Coconut oil has several amazing benefits. It is naturally antibacterial and antifungal and an excellent moisturizer.
Beeswax Pellets (I use this) Creates a protective barrier while still allowing the skin to breathe.
Lavender essential oil Has analgesic properties
Lemon Essential Oil Antimicrobial properties
Thyme Essential Oil Helps calm and reduce infection due to the presence of thymol
Tea Tree Essential Oil Helps to reduce pain and swelling. Helps reduce swelling, itching, and redness.
What Kind Of Bug Bites Does It Work On?
I have used it mostly for mosquito bites, but it can be used on fire ant bites, minor stings, and other small insect bites.
How Much Does The Bug Bite Salve Make?
This recipe makes enough for approximately 4 oz’s. I broke it up into several smaller containers and chapstick tubes for travel and to give to a few family members.

Bug Bite Salve
Calms protects and soothes pesky bug bites
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup coconut oil
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 2 Tbsp beeswax
- 10 drops lavender essential oil
- 10 drops tea tree essential oil
- 10 drops lemon essential oil
- 20 drops thyme essential oil
Instructions

In a medium sized microwave safe bowl mix together coconut oil. olive oil and beeswax.

Microwave the ingredients until melted checking every 15 seconds and stirring. It took me about 1 minute total but every microwave is different. You can also melt it in a double boiler on the stove if preferred.

Remove from microwave and stir in essential oils.

Pour into container/s

Makes enough for approximately one 4 oz container. You can also add it into smaller jars or chapstick tubes.

Store in a cool dry place.

To Use: apply a small amount to cover the affected area to provide relief.
Print the labels here on a standard 8 X 11.5 in sheet of paper. You can use Avery laminated sticker paper or use regular paper and clear packing tape over the labels (which is what I did) I normally like to use the sticker paper, but this is a much cheaper option, especially for just household use.
