Did you know these sunny little flowers have anti-inflammatory properties and are also full of antioxidants?
You also only need two ingredients to make dandelion oil and the uses are almost endless.
You Can Use Dandelion Oil To:
relieve sore muscles and achy joints
moisturizer for dry chapped skin
use as a skin care facial oil
first aid for scrapes, bug bites, or other minor irritations
How to Make Dandelion Oil
First, you will need to gather your dandelions. This is a fun project to get the kids involved with if you have younger kids. Just make sure the dandelions you pick haven’t been sprayed with pesticides.
Next, be sure to rinse any bugs or dirt off of the flowers. Also, because of the high water content in dandelions, you will need to let them dry for 24 hours. You can lay them on paper bags or paper towel.
After the dandelions have dried, make sure to take off any stems and just save the flower part of the plant.
Next, fill a glass jar half full with dandelion flowers and fill the rest of the way with oil. You can use any base oil such as olive oil, grapeseed, apricot, jojoba, etc..
We used a mixture of olive oil and fractionated coconut oil.
Lastly, cover the dandelions in the oil with a lid or a piece of cloth secured with a rubber band. Then place the jar in a sunny window for up to two weeks.
At the end of two weeks, strain the blossoms from the oil and place in a clean jar. The dandelion oil should last for up to one year, but as always do not use the oil if you notice it has gone rancid.
Tip: you can also add 10-20 drops of your favorite essential oil for added benefits.
A few oils that will also give you extra pain relieving properties are eucalyptus, marjoram, and lemongrass. I used 10 drops of eucalyptus and 10 drops of lemongrass for our oil.
