5 Food Essentials That You Should Never Be Caught Without in the Kitchen
The average person eats about 2000 pounds of food per year. Much of that food travels through a home kitchen.
Yes, the kitchen is a sacred place… Not only is it where people feed themselves but it’s an important gathering area in a lot of households where some of the most pertinent conversations take place.
In order to keep our kitchens running smoothly, our team has a handful of go-to staples that we (and our families) can’t live without.
In this post, we quickly run-down what the most popular food essentials are on our squad. See how many of these items you can’t live without as well!
1. Frozen Veggies
Veggies are incredibly versatile.
They make for great sides. They are also perfect as snacks.
In the frozen veggies department, our typical staples include carrots, green beans, and corn but additional variety is always something that’s welcome when people are feeling a little adventurous.
You can find frozen bags of veggies in the freezer section of just about any market.
2. Jam
Some gourmet condiments such as a solid jam are favorites. Jam is downright delicious and makes for a great breakfast or lunch go-to.
You can spread jam across toast in the mornings to complement your broader meal or spread it on soft bread by itself or alongside peanut butter to create decadent peanut butter and jam sandwiches.
If you get deep into jam, you might even consider making your own private label of it!
3. Dairy
Not every family is huge on dairy. For the people we know though, dairy is a must.
Milk is at the center of our food essentials in the dairy category. We also pick up cheese when it’s on sale and yogurt which is always a great grab-and-go meal option.
4. Meat
Meat is another broad food essentials item that is always available in our kitchen. Which kind of meat varies based on what the market has a deal on.
A couple of our meat favorites include chicken and ground beef (or ground turkey/pork depending on prices).
Both types of meat are versatile in meals and both freeze fabulously which reduces food waste.
5. Whole Fruit
You can’t say that your kitchen is stocked if you don’t have whole fruit that the kids can dip into. Apples, bananas, pears, peaches… Depending on the season, we always have something new and exciting sitting out on the counter.
If the people in your home don’t eat fruits fast enough and they start to brown, consider chopping them up and throwing them in the freezer to extend their life!
