Everything You Should Include in a Wedding Program
From all of the important details to romantic keepsake touches, find out everything you should include in your wedding program.
A program is a great addition to any wedding.
While it’s not the first thing in most couples’ wedding plans, a nice looking and well-planned wedding program can act as a nice keepsake for your guests. It’s also a great way to keep everyone in the know with how the ceremony is going down.
In this post, we’re going to help you plan your wedding program by telling you what absolutely needs to be on it and a few additions that might be nice to have. Every wedding program should have a bit of the couple’s personality in it, so don’t be afraid to get creative.
Let’s dig in and make this wedding one to remember for you and your guests.
What to Include in a Wedding Program
Every wedding ceremony is different, so every wedding program will be different as well. You can be as extravagant or as conservative as you want, after all, it’s your big day. Here are the things that you should definitely include.
Front Cover
The front cover should obviously include the pertinent information. You should always include the date of the wedding, the full name’s of the couple, the location, and time of the ceremony.
After you’ve got all that covered, you can add a little flare to give it some personality. If your wedding has a particular theme, you can include some imagery on the cover that is emblematic of the theme.
You could also put a picture of the couple on the front cover and maybe consider having your program match your wedding invitations. If you’re having invitations made, let them know your intentions to make a similar themed wedding program.
If you’re making a free wedding program and invitation, then you’ll be able to match them up as you please.
Inside
On the inside is where you’ll display all of the ceremonial information. Most importantly, you’ll display the order of events. Obviously, this will differ for each wedding.
For example, you might list a greeting, any readings or prayers and who is performing them, exchange of vows, ring ceremony, unity candle ceremony, and any music that is played. Just go through the order of your ceremony and list everything that’s going to be happening.
You do this so that your guests know, at the moment, what’s happening, but also to give them something to look back on later.
The only other thing that is crucial to put inside the wedding program is the actual members of the wedding. Here you’d include the officiant, parents of the couple, maid of honor, best man, and all of the bridesmaids and groomsmen.
Optional
Some of the optional things to display in your wedding program might include:
- Any audience participation that you want to occur.
- Thank you’s to those involved (catering, music, etc.).
- Any memorials to lost loved ones.
- Directions to the reception.
- Descriptions of what individual bridesmaids or groomsmen mean to you.
- Explanations of any unorthodox rituals or traditions you may have used in the ceremony.
A Keepsake for All
Encourage your guests to hang on to their wedding programs so that they can look back on this day as a memorable one. The beauty of the wedding program is that you’re the couple and you get to put whatever information you want in it. You don’t have to follow any rules just do what your gut tells you.
The most important thing is that you enjoy this process and enjoy the person that you’re marrying. You (hopefully) only go through it once and your wedding program is a reflection of the wedding planning process.
