Summer camp checklist; 4 things to pack for your kids
Your child might be really excited to go to summer camp, but we understand your stress and worry about sending them away. Parents are always there to look after their kids, but they can not be there all the time. You might be worried about what to pack and no matter how much you pack, it might seem like it is not enough. It might be overwhelming, but we are here to help you along your packing process. This list might just help ease your concern and help you understand what to pack for your kid when they are going off to summer camp.
Clothing
This is quite an obvious point, but once you get down to it, it’s quite overwhelming. Start with the basics such as t-shirts, shorts, and pyjamas. Remember to pack a lot of underwear and socks so that they do not have to re-wear sweaty clothes. Pack a swimsuit if there is a place to swim at the campsite. Old shorts or jeans are best because your kids will definitely be getting dirty. Try to pack a few layers for the chilly nights ahead. If there are special activities listed at the camp such as fishing or horse-riding, pack stuff accordingly.
First aid kit
The camp will definitely have their own first aid, but it is always better to send your kid out there with their own kit. You can pack up things such as bandages, elastic wraps, and manuka honey for dressing their scrapes and cuts. You should also pack any prescription medication that they have, or something that they use that might not be readily available everywhere. Also, try to pack something that will help them deal with bug bites. You can also pack up some patches that will repel mosquitoes.
Sunscreen
The most important thing to pack for your child is sunscreen. All camps are usually quite hot in the day, with the sun directly overhead. This can be fun for a day, but prolonged exposure can lead to some very serious sunburn issues. You should make sure that your child understands the importance of wearing sunscreen every single day. You can pack one for the face and one for the body, preferably a spray-on one. You can also pack a hat and sunglasses so that they are well-protected.
Some extras
There are some optional items that you might want to pack for your child that they may enjoy. You can pack a small photo of your album so that they can share it with their friends. Some letter-writing materials will ensure that they can be in touch with you when they miss you. If your child is the writing type, you can also pack a journal for them. Most camps do not allow electronics, so packing a book might be a good idea. If they have a small comfort item that they cannot do without, you can pack that too.
It is quite tough to send your kid out on their own, even if it is under supervision. Lay your worries to rest and be prepared with your packing.
