Fall Cleaning Tips
Although fall cleaning is not as popular as spring cleaning, I think it’s just as important. Think about it this way: all summer long, you were probably so busy having a blast with your friends and family. Who had time for home chores? Fall is the perfect time to get back on the wagon, take care of those neglected home chores, while also preparing your home for the upcoming cold weather season, which is really important to do. The heat of summer has passed, and the weather is still mild enough to be outdoors to make sure everything is ready for cold weather. If you do not know where to start when it comes to fall cleaning, here are a few fall cleaning tips and ideas for you:
Start by getting organized
I don’t know about you, but I cannot clean without getting organized first. For me, this means that I need to throw out any trash laying around and organize everything else. This way, when I get around to wiping down surfaces, dusting, etc. I don’t have to move 10 items around just in order to clean one small area. It’s so, so helpful to put everything where it goes before even attempting to clean. I try my best to keep up the organizing throughout the week, but most of the time by the end of the week, things are all over the place again. It’s a never-ending battle, for sure! Of course, us being us, our favorite is cleaning and tidying up all of our makeup products!
Refresh your seasonal clothes, linens, and decor items
I actually use the same linens year-round because I just do not have very many that I own (I should probably work on this), but if you switch out your linens during the year, make sure you wash them first. The same goes for any clothing items that you may be rotating. Why you ask? Because your clothes and/or linens have been sitting either out, getting dust all over them, or in a drawer, closed off from the air flow. To me, when my clothes and linens have been unused for a period of time, they start to smell like dust and I can’t stand it. This is why I always wash everything before using it again, even if I washed it all before storing it away.
Once you give everything a good wash, you can refresh your seasonal clothes, linens, and decor items. Bring out all the fun fall and winter items and store away your spring and summer items. When it comes to fall decor, if you are not sure where to start, reach out to an interior design specialist. Movin’ is a local moving company that surprisingly offers interior design as a service! They could definitely help you here, or they could at least help you move around pieces in your home to make it look better. In addition to that service, they also offer typical moving services like gun safe moving Salt Lake City. They say, “Combining years of experience in the moving and service industry, Movin’ has established a reputation for quality work and the highest customer satisfaction. Our VISION is to cater to all of your moving day needs personally and professionally. Our GOAL is to provide you with a great moving day experience that will alleviate all the financial, emotional, and physical stress caused by the many challenges of moving. Our CALLING is to serve our community.”
Deep clean your walls
I had never heard of cleaning walls until I read about the Branch Basics deep clean method. In this method, you basically vacuum the wall, then clean it with water and a cleaning solution, and then dry wipe it. Speaking of laundry in the paragraph above, make sure you look at the ingredients in your laundry detergent, dish detergent (even the stuff you use in your dishwasher!), and also your cleaning supplies – like the ones that you will be using on your wall. There are so many chemicals that we use that are in our everyday products and most of us turn a blind eye, not wanting to pay attention and do something about it. The cleaning solution that you use on your walls should definitely help you purify the air, not add to the toxicity of it.
Change your HVAC filter
If you need to change your HVAC filter, now is a great time to do so! It probably collected lots of dust and pollen over the spring and summer months, so it’s a great time to give it a refresh!
Clean and switch your ceiling fans
Last but not least, go ahead and switch your ceiling fans and give them a good clean while you are at it, too!
