How to Make Orange Infused All-Purpose Cleaner
I’m a huge fan of multitasking products, and this amazing DIY orange infused cleaner can seriously be used to clean just about anything!
There are a few items I don’t recommend using it on (see the bottom of post) but it is pretty amazing! Not to mention it’s all natural so it’s safe to use around pets and kids!
I use a mixture of store-bought cleaning products and make my own. However, I’ve found this homemade cleaner to work the best, and I haven’t bought an all-purpose cleaner from the store in months! It’s also easy to make, and very cost effective compared to many store-bought cleaners.
This cleaner only requires orange peels infused in vinegar to produce the perfect cleaning concentrate. The oranges contain d-limonene, a natural solvent that cuts through grease, and the vinegar helps to clean and neutralize odors.
If you’re worried about the scent of vinegar or not a fan of the scent like me, then don’t be! After the oranges soak in vinegar, you’re left with the fresh citrus orange scent. I did notice a very slight vinegar scent when I sprayed it the first time, but now all I smell is the orange scent, the vinegar scent quickly fades away.
Supplies:
Glass Jar ( I used a 16 oz empty jelly jar, but you can use a mason jar or any glass jar you choose)
Orange peels (pith included)
White Vinegar
Directions:
Place orange peels in a glass jar and pour white vinegar over the peels. (Don’t worry about adding them all at once, you can eat oranges throughout the week and just add the peels as you get them.) Make sure you use a jar with a lid and close shut.
Let the mixture sit for 2-3 weeks (the longer you let it set, the stronger the scent will be) It also helps to shake the jar daily to infuse the orange scent.
Remove the lid from the jar and discard peels. You can also drain the mixture with a coffee filter or cheesecloth to get rid of any sediment.
Add the mixture back to your glass jar.
You now have an amazing orange concentrate cleaner!
To Use:
Mix 1:1 ratio vinegar concentrate with water. I use an empty spray bottle and fill it halfway up with water and add the concentrate to fill the bottle up the rest of the way. Then I just shake it up and use on everything from the countertops to the sink and even the tile in the bathroom!
Do No Use On: Granite, marble, hardwood floors or painted surface. If you have any doubt, make sure to do a test spot first.
*Optional: You can also add 10-20 drops of your favorite essential oils. Some great blends to go with Orange are Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Lavender, or Sandlewood.
