7 Rules For A Healthy Life
Many people have their own ideas of what living a healthy life actually means. Your version of a healthy life must be something that works for you. Opposite to what you might think, you definitely don’t have to eat perfectly, run every day, or do anything too extreme. Below you’ll find the 7 rules for a healthy life that will help you to no end.
Rule 1: Get Outside Often
If you work in an office, or even for yourself, getting outside and enjoying some fresh air might not be at the top of your priority list. However, getting outside is absolutely essential to health and wellbeing. Sunlight provides Vitamin D, and the light and fresh air can be a great restorative treatment for the mind and body. We weren’t built to be cooped up all day, so make a special effort to get outside!
Rule 2: Find A Way of Staying Active That You Actually Like
Staying active is key for a healthy life – especially for people who may have sedentary jobs. Going to the gym is great, providing you enjoy whatever workout you’re doing, as this way it is far more sustainable. That being said, you should try to incorporate exercise into your daily life too. Walk more. Park further away from your destination, and try to take the stairs. If you work out for a small portion of the day and still end up sitting the rest of the time, it can become a problem.
Rule 3: Make Smart Food Choices (But Enjoy Them)
Making smart choices is essential for health, but you should also enjoy the food you’re eating. The problem many people have is a pattern of restricting and bingeing. Allowing yourself total freedom with food will allow your smart choices to come from a place of freedom rather than a place of fear. Many foods do have a more valuable nutritional profile than others, but that doesn’t mean you should only ever eat fruit and vegetables. Balance and sustainability are absolutely key.
Rule 4: Spend Time Working On Yourself
If you’re not finding a way to work on yourself, you’re stuck. Being stagnant isn’t any fun! Spend time alone so you can learn more about yourself. Do things you enjoy. Improve and build new skills. Try an online mba program or another online course that could help you in both your professional and personal development. Test out many different ways of improving yourself!
Rule 5: Stay In Touch With The People You Love
Connection is key for mental health. Stay in touch with the people you love regularly, whether this is a brunch meet up or even a quick phone call. It can be tough to do this when we’re all so busy, but making time for it is a must if you want to be happy and healthy!
Rule 6: Get Into ‘The Flow’ Regularly
Getting into the flow means getting lost in something. You know those times where you had all of your concentration on the task in front of you, literally not thinking about anything else? The time seems to slow down too, but when you look at the clock eventually, hours have passed! For you this could be painting, writing, knitting, or anything that makes you feel this way.
