Where To Get Free Or Inexpensive Gift Wrapping Services
There’s nothing that says “finishing touches” like elegant or thoughtful gift-wrapping. When sending things to people you care about, the extra mile of wrapping it up nicely goes a long way. However, most stores do not include discounted gift-wrapping (much less free) with the items you purchase; we have compiled a select few that do. If you favor doing the deed, yourself, then you can pass this list on to friends and family that might find it useful.
Should you spend extra on gift-wrapping? Look at it this way: if you’re having something shipped to the person, then why not? You’re already saving money on first receiving the items, wrapping them yourself, and shipping them out. Some stores even run promotional periods during which the normal gift-wrapping service is significantly reduced in price, or altogether free.
1. Von Maur
Von Maur is a successful department store chain that has seen limited expansion to 15 states in the US. They’ve been around since the late 1800s and continue in their tradition of offering both free delivery and free gift-wrapping services to any location in America.
2. Walmart
Walmart is perhaps the second most well-known store name in the world (other than maybe some Chinese company!), and provides gift-wrapping services at just $3.88 per. The wrapping comes with a blue box and eggshell ribbon – gift-wrap is free for all jewelry purchases.
3. Amazon
The most well-known store name in the world, primarily because of its exclusively digital reach. Large items come with a reusable cloth bag that’s surprisingly sturdy and festive. For normal items, however, gift-wrapping ranges from $3.99 to $5.99 per item. The bigger it is, the higher the price up to the cap.
4. Origins
Origins do things a little bit differently: not only is there free gift wrapping on every single order, you can have a collection of items in your cart wrapped individually at no extra cost. Of course, the option to simply have everything combined into one big gift-wrapped order is also available.
5. Tiffany & Co.
Purveyor of a woman’s best friend – this diamond and jewelry company is as recognizable a brand as any other. Their beautiful signature turquoise gift box and white ribbon is the icing on the cake of a jewelry order – and it’s just as free.
6. Apple
Apple offers free engraving on the back of an iPod or iPad; however, their gift-wrapping services are not free. They are discounted, though, and range from $3.99 to $5.99 for larger items that are not quite classified as bulky.
7. MAC Cosmetics
The flat fee for gift-wrapping is $4.99, but MAC Cosmetics often runs promotional ventures that can have it sent off for free. This complimentary service is usually seasonal; prime for the gift-giving season when wrapping services are competitive.
8. Bobbi Brown
Bobbi Brown online definitely offers free gift-wrapping – as long as you check the right box when you’re checking out.
9. Nordstrom
Nordstrom is a high-end brand that takes shipping and wrapping especially seriously. Although you can walk into any of their stores and receive a free gift box kit if you ask for one; online shopping is as convenient as you’d expect it to be. They offer a $5 gift box that is all assembled and ready, or a gift box kit for $2 (you do the rest yourself). There’s also the option to include a complimentary 8-12 words message on an attached card.
10. Barnes & Noble
You can almost always get gift-wrapping done in the store, as Barnes & Nobles will have local charities come by and do them – the price is whatever you feel compelled to give. You don’t have to give anything at all.
11. L’Occitane
With this one, you can have your order gift-wrapped for free, or have the gift box sent to you with the order – your choice. It’s a red and gold beauty that is unmistakably festive.
12. Aveda
Aveda goes the extra mile with their gift-wrapping; not only is it free, you get it customized to your specifications. That’s a tough one to match for most stores – and Aveda includes a free sample if the product you’re gifting comes from their bestseller list.
13. JCPenney
A giant in the 80s and early to mid-90s, JCPenney is still alive and kicking. Their gift-wrapping comes in at an adequate $4 per item for items under 5 pounds.
14. GAP
The GAP charges you $6 for gift-wrapping of the premium variety and $5 for any items from babyGAP. For the simple option, you get flat boxes for free with which to make the gift box, yourself.
15. Banana Republic
Banana Republic provides customers with unassembled gift boxes for free – but this lacks the ribbon and tissue of the $6 premium service.
