Things Busy Moms Can Do to Simplify Their Lives
We see it on TV all the time: overworked moms with way too much to do. They’re running kids to and from school and after-school activities, prepping lunches when the kids are asleep, and staying up late catching up on work or household needs. Home life is bursting at the seams with activities and projects, and Mom is tired. She doesn’t get enough time for herself because she’s giving it all to her family, and perhaps her job. It sounds overwhelming, but if you’re a working mom it probably also sounds very familiar.
Simplifying your life might seem nearly impossible. Although this process looks different for each of us, there are a few areas of life to consider simplifying that are helpful across the board.
Your Schedule

A great first step toward simplifying life as a mom is to take a little time to jot down all of the essentials for the week like your work schedule, drop-off and pick-up times, after-school activities, or appointments. Get a calendar (desk or wall) and put it up where you can see it every day. Write out plans for each day and stick to them. This helps to take a great deal of the guesswork out of each day for the whole family. When everyone in the house is on a schedule, you’ll find so much more gets done.
Get Organized
When it comes to your closets and cupboards, eliminating clutter and focusing on quality is essential. Most of us have tons of clothes we almost never wear and stuff in our cabinets we’ve forgotten about. We could likely afford to get rid of a few things. Sorting things into categories like things your family needs, loves, and likes, and working through one room at a time can keep things from getting overwhelming. Things you truly need and use on a regular basis stay. Objects you sincerely love or that are sentimental go into another keep pile, and everything leftover goes.
Clearing out the fridge and pantry on a regular basis and getting rid of anything that’s expired and perhaps donating things you haven’t opened in months can help you make the most of everything you have, and make clearer what you actually need.
Dress for Comfort and Efficiency
Ever have days when you work, pick kids up from different schools, run them to practices, and then rush home to change for a dinner out? Probably sounds like a typical day. Athleisure could very well become your new best friend. Around for a while now, this trend shows no signs of going anywhere. One of the most challenging things about living such crazy busy lives is finding the time to really focus on style and appearance from one activity to the next.
How you integrate athleisure pieces into your regular wardrobe is up to you, of course, and should follow your own personal style. Blending regular fashion pieces like a leather jacket with sporty pieces like sweats, yoga pants, or stylish sneakers is a great way to create a well-balanced look that’ll carry you through a full day of changing scenarios.
