What to wear pregnant
What to wear pregnant? Stylish tips for expectant mothers
Hormonal jumps will lead to mood swings, the need to combine pregnancy and work during the first months – add general fatigue, changes in appearance – cause anxiety and concern for your appearance. Yes, you can’t control the changes that occur with the body, but you can fully control your emotional state.
There are three well-known postulates that you must remember and observe: proper sleep and rest, proper nutrition and personal care. A lot of books and articles have been written about the first two, here we’ll talk about the wardrobe of a pregnant woman. I will try to cover as much as possible the question of completing the wardrobe, choosing suitable styles, what to wear when pregnant, where to buy clothes and what things are critical and which ones you can refuse.
The need to think about what to walk for 9 months makes many pregnant women sad and does not contribute at all to the joy and happiness that it is important to experience when carrying a child. The upcoming financial restrictions when going on maternity leave can be frightening and you don’t want to spend money on new things that are only needed for 9 months.
However, do not be greedy or stop taking care of yourself! Like malnutrition, inadequate self-care closes the circle of depression. If you look good, you are more likely to have a good mood. Pregnancy is the time to choose an easy-to-care haircut, review daily makeup and revise your wardrobe, so as not to spend a lot of time and effort on them. In addition, there is a way to look beautiful and not spend a lot of money.
What to wear during pregnancy? Where to buy clothes? Having walked all this way, myself, I can say from my own experience what a future mother will need, and what can be easily abandoned.
How to choose clothes.
During pregnancy, your body changes. The stomach grows and the total body weight is added. If you did not have problems with excess weight before pregnancy, and you ate correctly, most likely that your body will not change, only your stomach will grow.
Therefore, do not immediately buy things a size larger. The risk is great that such clothes will hang like a hoodie, adding visual weight and reducing growth. It’s also ugly. Often the size remains the same as before pregnancy, and the changes concern only the style.
Yes, it is real to wear your size for the entire duration! But this does not mean that you can wear all your old things. You can, but not all. Below I will tell you which ones.
Before storming stores and online maternity clothing stores, look into your wardrobe. I’m sure there will be a lot of things of the right style, lengths that dusted in the closet and simply were not worn! A great occasion to give them life.
So, we look in the wardrobe and put it in a pile:
- Extra long T-shirts, tops, blouses, button down cardigans, sweaters and sweaters;
- Tunics
- Underwear for postpartum women
- Knitted dresses of a direct silhouette and A silhouette (both casual and sports, a la Lacoste);
- High-waisted things;
- Leggings with a wide, not heavy elastic band;
- Jersey sports pants and shorts with a soft elastic band;
- Jackets and outerwear of a straight and loose, flared style.
Now give them a separate place in the wardrobe. These are the things you can wear throughout your pregnancy. Match pairs with them if necessary.
Many women wear their regular jeans and trousers for up to 3-4 months. I also succeeded. But! All individually, make a choice based on the size of your tummy and convenience. There should not be any pressure on him! If you feel the slightest discomfort – do not take chances, get a model with elastic rubber.
Models of trousers and jeans for expectant mothers vary in height and density of elastic. There is a low, medium and high elastic (stretched above the navel!). It makes sense to try on all three and choose the most comfortable one for yourself. It is usually more convenient in 1-2 trimesters with low or medium, and in 3-4 trimesters go to high, when it can already be “pulled” on the tummy.
Regardless of where you, when pregnant, buy clothes, pay attention to the following:
- On style. Look for styles A silhouette, smell, straight with tucks under the chest and pinches at the waist. You can find plus-sized shapewear for women to try, most shapewear are fine to use for pregnant women but try to avoid waist trainer or those that tries to compress your organs.
- On the fabric. Best natural with the addition of elastic fibers. Natural fabrics provide air circulation, while elastic fibers provide a perfect fit.
- For details. Jeans, pants with a hard elastic band set aside in the far corner. Buy pants and / or jeans with elastic at the maternity store.
- To length. T-shirts, blouses, sweaters and other shoulder clothing should be longer than normal to cover the tummy. Tunics, elongated cardigans and sweaters will do.
- Accents. Shift accents to the upper torso and arms. Choose high-waisted styles, a moderate neckline, bright accessories. So distract attention from the rounded tummy and the waist hiding behind it.
Strangely enough, pregnant women can buy most of the clothes in ordinary stores. One has only to choose clothes according to the above recommendations of length, fabric, style! But what is worth going to the maternity store is jeans and trousers.
