If you know me, then you know how much I love sugar and salt scrubs! I’ve shared many of the ones I’ve made on the blog such as gingerbread scrub, and my favorite chocolate salt scrub!
I use to buy them online or at stores, but found out they are super easy to make at home, not to mention much cheaper! Some basic sugar scrubs cost as much as $60…which is crazy when you think that’s it’s only sugar an oil, fragrance, and other added ingredients they put in to make it last longer.
This lemon hand scrub is exfoliating, moisturizing and I love the uplifting citrus scent, especially in the summer! I like to keep a jar of it by the kitchen sink and use it when I come in from outside or use it after I wash my hands.
If you’re thinking about making this, I promise you won’t be disappointed! Not to mention, it’s super easy to make and also makes a great gift for friends, neighbors, the kid’s teachers or just about anyone!
You can also easily double or even triple the recipe if you need more for gifts.
Just don’t forget to keep one for yourself!
What I love about making hand and body scrubs at home is, you know exactly what you are putting into them. There’s no extra chemicals or ingredients you can’t pronounce, and I feel much safer using them.
Since DIY scrubs don’t have any extra additives or preservatives, they don’t seem to last as long as the ones you buy at the stores, but I prefer it that way. I’ve found that most of the salt and sugar scrubs I’ve made last about 2-3 months. If you use this lemon scrub like I do, then it probably won’t last long anyway!
* Please note: Some citrus oils such as lemon can cause photosensitivity. I haven’t had any issues since the mixture is diluted and rinsed off immediately but it’s best to always use caution. Please use caution if you are going to be out in the sun after using this.
