Let’s face it, nobody likes stinky odors, whether it’s coming from the trash can, stinky shoes, the onion in the fridge, or even from the diaper pail.
I used to buy scented trash bags, even though we take the main trash out daily. They are a little more expensive than some trash bags, and I noticed over time the scent was getting overwhelming and giving me a headache when I walked in the kitchen. So, I decided to make these deodorizing disk. They work great in the trash can to neutralize stinky odors, or anywhere that needs a little freshening up!
These DIY Deodorizing Disk are simple to make and contain baking soda which is a natural deodorizer and you can scent them with any essential oil you like! You can even scent each one individually if you like! You can also make them without the essential oil, as the baking soda will still act as a deodorizer.
Lately, I’ve been obsessed with the Clean & Fresh essential oil from Simply Earth. It has a fresh clean scent without being overpowering. No more headaches from artificial fragrance yay!
Supplies:
Silicone muffin pan or silicone cupcake holders
Medium-sized mixing bowl & spoon
Baking Soda
Salt
Distilled water
Essential oil ( I used Clean & Fresh, but lemon, lavender, or sweet orange would also work great)

Mix 2 cups baking soda, 1 TBS salt, and 1/2 cup water in a mixing bowl.
Pack mixture into silicone baking cups or muffin tins and let dry for 24-48 hours. Pop out of molds and store in an airtight container. Tip: make sure they are fully dry before you remove them from the mold. I took a few out a little to early and they started to fall apart. The amount of disks you will end up with depends on the size mold you use.
Once dry, you can add 3-4 drops of your favorite essential oil to each disk.
*You can find the chalkboard labels I used here.
To Use:
Place 3-4 drops of essential oils on disk and place in the bottom of the trash can or in the bag itself for more odor control, refrigerator, or any other smelly spot that could use a little deodorizing!
I like to place these in the bottom of the trash can, and then when it starts to lose the scent, or itś time to clean out the inside of the trash can, I add warm water and it dissolves the disk. I then scrub the baking soda mixture on the inside of the trash can to help clean and deodorize, and then rinse out the mixture, and dry.
How to Store:
Keep in a closed container or Ziploc bag away from moisture.
