6 Signs You’re Addicted to Coffee
If you took the time to click on this link and you’re reading this right now, it’s probably already safe to say you’re a coffee addict. Why else would you care to know the signs of coffee addiction? If you’re still in denial about it or “asking for a friend”, here are six more signs you’re addicted to coffee.
1. Brewing a Cup of Joe Is First Priority When You Wake Up
Most people wake up in the morning and immediately think about using the restroom, taking a shower, what’s for breakfast, or the immense number of items on their to-do list for the day. If you’re a coffee addict, your daily brew is the first thought that enters your mind. Even the idea of a “to-do” list before you’re properly caffeinated stresses you out and gives you a headache.
2. You Run Late because You Have to Stop to Buy a Coffee
Let’s consider this scenario: you’re running out the door because you’re late, yet you still decide to stop by a Starbucks drive-thru to get your daily cup of brew. If this sounds like you, there’s definitely a possibility you’re addicted. What’s even worse though, is when you leave your house on time but arrive late with a cup of coffee in your hand. In this situation, you basically prioritized that cup of coffee over being on time. If you left late in the first place, you’re already going to be late regardless, so why not make yourself feel better about it, right?
3. You Still Stop for Coffee Even When You Know You Can’t Afford it
Every true coffee addict has been in this position before. You’re running errands and you start to get a little sleepy. Or perhaps you’re on your way home from a bad day at work, and you find out there’s traffic on your route home. Whatever your reasoning may be, you make a stop for coffee—even when you can’t afford it. Every caffeine addict has made up excuses for themselves like “well I didn’t drink my entire cup this morning, so I deserve a second one.” or “I did/didn’t do this today, so I should reward myself.”
4. If You Don’t Get a Cup of Coffee, It Affects your Entire Day
Anyone who is addicted to coffee has had this problem at least once—especially in those dire times when you run out of coffee at home and are too late to pick some up on the way. It won’t even be three hours into your day and already you’ll feel groggy, irritable, anxious, or have a headache. Caffeine affects us all differently and just like any other addiction, the withdrawal will affect you just as much.
5. You Drink More Than One Cup Per Day
We’ve all been in this position. You’re at work and you start to feel groggy and tired. You look at the clock and notice it’s only been three hours since your last cup of coffee. What do you in this situation? You grab a second cup of course! It’s the only thing that will make you feel better and start being productive again, right? The only issue is that when another three to four hours pass by, you already begin to feel the same way. Then you’ll convince yourself to drink that third (or fourth) cup of coffee.
6. You’re a Starbucks Gold Member
As soon as you sign up for the rewards account, you’re in the fast lane to becoming a coffee addict. Once you hit that “Gold Member” status, you’re officially a certified coffee addict.
In order to hit the “Gold Member” status, you must earn at least 300 Stars within a 12-month period. Mind you, that every dollar spent equal 2 stars, so 300 stars is approximately $150 worth of Starbucks within one year. If you are purchasing $150 of coffee from one place within 12 months, you are definitely a coffee addict. And if you have ordered an iPhone case that goes with your Starbucks order, you’ve taken your addiction to the next level. Once you’ve ordered a phone case matching your coffee beverage of choice, that’s another sign you’re just a tad addicted to coffee.
