Homemade Crock Pot Apple Butter
Homemade apple butter is good on just about anything. I like to eat it on toast, biscuits, on ice cream and sometimes right out of the jar!
Apple Butter also makes a great inexpensive gift for the holidays, and is easy to make in the crockpot. The hardest part is peeling and cutting up the apples, and then the long wait in the crockpot to cook all day.
I have to say though, I don’t mind waiting for it in the crock pot all day because it also makes the house smell amazing at the same time!
If you’re making this as a gift don’t forget to print out the free printable labels below!
You can also attach a Made with Love Gift Tag also available as a free printable for a cute little gift that almost anyone is sure to love!
In case you are wondering, I used 4 oz mason jars (found here) and Avery sticker paper for the labels (found here)
Crock Pot Apple Butter
Delicious homemade apple butter made in the crockpot. Great for gift giving!
Ingredients
- 3 lbs apples ( I used red delicious)
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/8 tsp nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp ground cloves
Instructions
-
Peel and core the apples and then slice them into wedges.
-
Place the apples in the bottom of the crockpot and then add the brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, nutmeg, and ground cloves. Stir to coat the apples.
-
Cook on high 3-4 hours or until apples are soft. Stir occasionally.
-
Add the apples to a blender and blend until smooth.
-
Place the blended apples back in the crockpot with the top off and allow to thicken 2-3 more hours stirring occasionally. If it isn't as thick as you like after 2-3 hours, you can leave it longer until it reaches the desired consistency you like.
-
Store in airtight containers and refrigerate. Use within 2-3 weeks.
-
Makes enough for 4 (4oz) containers or 2 (8 oz) jars
