DIY Twine Pumpkin
I love decorating for the different seasons. In the past, I had several boxes of seasonal decor that I would bring out each season.
Unfortunately after several moves, a divorce, and even a flooded basement I gave up on storing lots of seasonal decor.
Honestly, I don’t really miss it. I just buy a few affordable expendable items such as pumpkins and mums and make a few simple crafts.
This twine pumpkin is one of the easiest and I think cutest fall decoration we made this year. This craft is so simple, it’s even fun for the kids to make! ( I also made something similar using yarn for Spring that you can see here)
You Will Need:
- a ballon
- Elmers glue
- twine (can also use colored yarn like orange for the pumpkin)
- Something to make the stem – You can use a natural stick or piece of wood outside, or wrap a stem with green or brown yarn. I used an old hairspray top wrapped in green yarn and it worked great as a last-minute stem.
- green pipe cleaner
1.Blow the balloon up to the size you want your pumpkin to be and tie the balloon
2. Lightly cover the balloon completly with Elmer’s glue. I used a sponge paintbrush, but you can also use a paper towel or sponge to make sure the balloon is thoroughly coated with glue.
3. Before the glue dries, start wrapping the twine or yarn to cover the balloon. You can go in any pattern until the balloon is covered.
Once the balloon is covered, stick the remaining piece of twine or yarn under another piece to make sure it stays put.
4. Place the twine and ballon somewhere to dry for at least 4-6 hours.
5. Once the twine is almost dry, pop the balloon and gently pull out the deflated balloon from the top.
6. With your thumb, carefully make a small opening in the top of the pumpkin for your stem. If you are using yarn, place glue on the item you are using for the stem and wrap the yarn around it. allow it to dry and then stick in the opening and glue if necessary. Add the pipe cleaner to the side of the stem.
I got the free printable from Make This Day Count Blog and I love the simplicity of the design and font.
