This basic cornbread recipe is the one I grew up with and goes great with soup, beans or even by itself! It also goes great with my favorite Chili Mac Recipe! I always use an iron skillet because I feel it gives it a nice crispy taste.
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 1/3 cups milk
- 1/4 cup oil
- 2 cups buttermilk self-rising corn meal mix
- heat oven to 450 degrees. Grease 9-inch skillet and place in oven to heat. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients; mix well. Pour batter into hot greased skillet Bake for 20-25 minutes
