Scented Beeswax Ornaments
Each year I try to make a DIY ornament or keepsake with the kids for the Christmas tree. So far we’ve made salt dough ornaments, peppermint ornaments, and cinnamon ornaments.
This year we decided to make scented beeswax ornaments. Although, the kids didn’t get to help as much as they did with other ornaments due to the hot wax, they still had fun measuring and stirring the unmelted wax.
The beeswax ornaments turned out so cute and they smell delicious! We used cinnamon essential oil for a christmas-y scent, but feel free to use your favorite essential oil. I’m sure pine essential oil or frankincense would also smell nice.
What’s nice about these ornaments are that they are super easy to make. You simply melt the wax, stir in the essential oil, and pour into your molds with twine or a ribbon.
These beeswax ornaments would also make a great gift or look cute tied to the top of a present!
Supplies Needed:
- Beeswax pellets (can use yellow or white) ( I use this)
- Silicone Mold – We used this mini silicone mold to make small ornaments for my daughters mini Christmas tree and this gingerbread mold to make regular sized ornaments.
- Essential Oil ( I use this)
- Twine or ribbon
What are your favorite homemade ornaments to make for the holidays?
Beeswax Ornaments
Easy melt and pour scented beeswax ornaments.
Ingredients
- .5 lb beeswax pellets (can use yellow or white)
- 10-15 drops essential oil
Instructions
-
Cut the twine or ribbon you are using and fold it to make a circle. Place it in the center of the mold you are using. I used approximately a 4 inch piece of twine for each ornament.
-
In a medium sized microwave safe bowl melt the beeswax pellets in 30-second intervals until fully melted. You can also melt the beeswax pellets over the stove with a double boiler.
-
When the wax is fully melted, carefully remove with pot holders. Let the wax cool for approximately 30 seconds but don't allow it to harden, and stir in your essential oil.
-
Pour the scented wax into your silicone mold/s. Be sure to lift up the twine or ribbon so it doesn't sink all the way to the bottom of the mold. That way the twine or ribbon will be in the center of the ornament and not show through.
