I’ve struggled off and on with sleep issues for many many years. Back when I worked outside the house as a nurse, I worked the night shift, evening shift, and day shift (not all at the same time of course) When I first started as a nurse, I worked the night shift for about 6 months and my sleep was so messed up.
I would get home at 7 in the morning, stay awake for a few hours and then try to sleep. I bought blackout curtains, ran a fan in the room for noise, tried melatonin and nothing seemed to work!
I know many nurses that thrive on night shift and love it, but I was over the moon when there was an opening on evening shift and they called to see if I wanted it. I’m much more of a morning person!
Now as a work at home mom I still occasionally have a hard time falling asleep. Most of the time it’s due to everyday stressors or worrying about something I need to do the next day. So I started doing a nighttime ritual.
First I take a warm bath about an hour before bed using these relaxing bath salts, then I spray my pillows, and sheets, and comforter with sleepytime linen spray, and then I dab this sleepytime balm behind my ears and on my wrists.
Sometimes I even listen to relaxation music. I also try to write anything down I might forget or am worried about before I go to bed. It really helps to relax, and calm me down before going to sleep.
Today I wanted to share with you how to make the sleepytime balm. It is all natural, so you can use it nightly for a more peaceful nights sleep. You can also use this throughout the day when feeling a little stressed too!
Itś easy to make and also makes a cute gift with the printable tags! You can pair this with the sleepytime spray, a lavender tea and maybe some cozy socks for the perfect little gift basket!

Relaxing, all natural balm to apply before bed for a peaceful nights sleep.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup coconut oil
- 2 Tbsp almond oil (can use other carrier oil)
- 2 Tbsp beeswax
- 15-20 drops lavender or a mixture of lavender and cedarwood essential oil
Instructions
-
In a medium sized microwave safe bowl, mix all of the ingredients except for the essential oils. If you are using beeswax pellets you can put them in the bowl as they are. If you are using beeswax sticks you will need to grate them first.
-
Microwave the ingredients until thoroughly melted in 20-second intervals. Note: the beeswax will take a little longer to melt all the way.
-
Remove from microwave and add in essential oils.
-
Pour the mixture into a 4 oz container or two 2 oz containers
-
Let the mixture completely solidify for up to an hour. If you are in a particularly humid area, you can also put them in the freezer to harden.
-
Store in a cool, dark area away from moisture in a container with a lid. The balm should last 1-2 years if kept out of heat and away from moisture.
-
To Use: Apply a small amount behind ears, on temple area, and wrists before going to sleep. Can also use throughout the day for tension relief.
